NPR interviews Tuohy family in light of Oher’s adoption allegations

Members of the Tuohy family are now addressing the allegations made by former NFL player Michael Oher, who claims that they profited from a false narrative that they adopted him. Oher, known as the inspiration behind the movie The Blind Side, has filed a petition asking the court to dissolve the conservatorship established by the Tuohy family. According to court documents, Oher argues that he was convinced to sign documents agreeing to the conservatorship in 2004. The Tuohys deny Oher’s allegations and state that they did not make any money from the movie. They clarify that the conservatorship was created to satisfy NCAA rules when it appeared that Oher might play football at the University of Mississippi. Despite the current tension, the Tuohys express that they will continue to support and love Oher. Oher claims that he has no legal or familial relation to the Tuohys. He alleges that he did not receive any compensation from The Blind Side, while the Tuohys made millions from the film. The petition also states that Oher discovered he was never formally adopted by the Tuohys, despite the portrayal in the movie. Both NPR and ABC 24 Memphis reached out for comment, but have yet to receive a response from any involved parties. In a statement, Oher expresses his dismay with the situation and asks for privacy while the lawsuit unfolds.
