Novak Djokovic Set to Visit America for the First Time Since US Open Incident, Expresses Excitement for the Cincinnati Open

Novak Djokovic has made his return to the United States for the first time since the fallout of the US Open last year. The world No 2 was denied entry to the country due to his refusal to take the Covid-19 vaccine. However, with Covid-19 restrictions now easing, Djokovic has been able to come back to the US to prepare for the US Open and the Cincinnati Open.

After a two-year absence, Djokovic is eager to make his mark in the Cincinnati Open. Last year, he chose to skip the US Open rather than comply with vaccination requirements, allowing Carlos Alcaraz to win the tournament. But now, Djokovic has been welcomed back with open arms by fans who gathered to watch his practice session in Mason.

Djokovic expressed his excitement about being back in America, stating, “It’s been two years since I was last in America, so of course I’m excited and was very much looking forward to coming. Lots of young fans I have seen the last couple of days on the practice courts, which is always great to see.”

The Serbian tennis star was pleasantly surprised by the level of support he received during his practice session. He even jokingly asked his coach if they were at the right court for a match because of the atmosphere. Djokovic expressed his gratitude for the presence of so many people, saying, “I’m very grateful for the presence of so many people at a practice session, which is amazing.”

Djokovic is determined to bounce back from his defeat in the Wimbledon final against Carlos Alcaraz and will face either Alejandro Davidovich Fokina or Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the round of 32. Meanwhile, Alcaraz, the current world No 1, is also in Cincinnati and will be playing either John Isner or Jordan Thompson.
