Nordstrom Store in Canoga Park Vandalized by Numerous Robbers

Police are currently engaged in an ongoing search for a group of up to 50 individuals, all wearing masks and hoodies, who committed a daring robbery at Nordstrom in the Westfield Topanga Mall. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has condemned this crime, expressing her outrage.

The incident took place on Saturday at approximately 4 p.m. at the store located at 21725 Victory Blvd., just east of Topanga Canyon Boulevard. In footage posted on Twitter, both male and female suspects can be seen smashing displays, grabbing clothing and bags, and swiftly fleeing the store.

According to Pedro Muniz, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department, there were an estimated 30 to 50 individuals involved. Despite the chaos, the mall was not evacuated, but an ambulance was called to assist a man who had been sprayed with bear spray.

NBC4 reported that the stolen items were valued between $60,000 and $100,000.

In response to the incident, Mayor Bass stated, “What happened today at the Nordstrom in the Topanga Mall is absolutely unacceptable. Those responsible for this and similar crimes in the vicinity must be held accountable. The Los Angeles Police Department will diligently investigate this incident and take preventive measures to protect retailers from future attacks.”

This theft is reminiscent of a recent “flash mob” burglary that occurred at the Yves Saint Laurent store in the Americana at Brand mall in Glendale, as described by the Glendale Police Department. The suspects in this case also targeted clothing and merchandise before fleeing on foot and in multiple vehicles. Sgt. Victor Jackson of the Glendale Police Department estimated losses of approximately $300,000.

He further explained, “These ‘flash mob’ burglaries involve a large, coordinated group overpowering store staff and swiftly stealing as much merchandise as possible before making their escape in separate vehicles.”

Video footage of this incident was widely circulated, just like in the Nordstrom robbery.
