Nordstrom Store in Canoga Park Ravaged by Multiples of Thieves

Police are currently conducting a search for members of a large group of criminals who looted the Nordstrom store at Westfield Topanga Mall. The Los Angeles Mayor, Karen Bass, has condemned the crime.

The incident took place on Saturday at around 4 p.m. at the Nordstrom store located on Victory Blvd. The thieves, wearing masks and hoodies, were caught on cell phone video smashing displays, grabbing clothing and bags, and fleeing the store.

Sergeant Pedro Muniz of the Los Angeles Police Department stated that there were between 30 to 50 individuals involved in the mass shoplifting. Despite the incident, the mall was not evacuated, and only one person had to be treated for bear spray exposure.

The stolen items are estimated to be worth between $60,000 and $100,000.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass expressed her outrage at the incident, calling it “absolutely unacceptable.” She emphasized that those responsible for the crime should be held accountable and that the police will take measures to prevent similar attacks on retailers in the future.

This incident bears resemblance to a “flash mob” burglary that occurred at the Yves Saint Laurent store in Glendale. The criminals, also acting in a coordinated manner, managed to steal approximately $300,000 worth of merchandise before fleeing the scene in multiple vehicles.

Chief Michel Moore of the Los Angeles Police Department attributed the rise in shoplifting and criminal boldness to changes in California’s laws. According to him, lenient laws, such as the elimination of cash bail for misdemeanors, have weakened the criminal justice system and discouraged law enforcement efforts.

Chief Moore highlighted the unequal playing field created by different bail policies in neighboring cities, emphasizing that criminals consider the severity of consequences before committing crimes.
