No Audience Member Demonstrates Support for Rwanda Policy on Question Time

An MP from the Conservative Party, in a discussion about migration, revealed that she and a group of her colleagues once delivered a “car-load of donations” to the migrant camp called the ‘Jungle’ in Calais. During her visit, she engaged with young men living in the camp and listened to their reasons for wanting to come to the UK. However, she emphasized that it is not morally acceptable to continue a situation where people put their lives at risk and resort to paying human smugglers. She emphasized the need for a different approach to deter such activities.

In recent news, deportation flights to Rwanda were halted by the Court of Appeal due to deficiencies in Rwanda’s asylum system. According to court documents, it was deemed unsafe and illegal to send migrants to Rwanda as there was a real risk of them being returned to their home country, where they could face persecution or inhumane treatment, which would be a violation of Article Three of the European Convention on Human Rights. This ruling came after a year-long legal battle that began when a judge issued an injunction blocking the first deportation flight to Rwanda.

Despite this setback, Rishi Sunak, a prominent figure within the Conservative Party, remains optimistic about overturning the verdict.
