The Fulton Street Mall in Brooklyn has undergone a transformation with major national brands such as Nordstrom Rack, American Eagle Outfitters, Gap, Pandora, and Aldo replacing cheap fast-food and junk stores.
Macy’s has successfully adapted to a reduced size, while the iconic Gage & Tollner restaurant has brought back the dining glamour of Fulton Street’s past.
Reflecting the improving fortunes of the strip, New Jersey’s Inserra family, known for their supermarkets in the state, has signed a lease for a 21,000 square-foot emporium called The Fresh Grocer at RMC Assets’ 523 Fulton St. The owner of RMC, Raymond M. Chera, invested $20 million to renovate and modernize the century-old building.
The Fresh Grocer will have a prominent presence on Fulton Street, with the majority of the space located downstairs. The landlord was represented by Cushman & Wakefield’s Ian Lerner, while the Inserras were represented by Lee & Associates’ Steve Lorenzo.
Lerner stated that Fresh Grocer, as part of the Inserras’ expansion, will contribute to the enhancement of the neighborhood by attracting premier national credit tenants to the Fulton Mall area.
