Nineteen-Year-Old Man Suspected in Coachella Shooting Faces Felony Charges

A 19-year-old man has been formally charged with a felony for his alleged involvement in a non-fatal shooting that took place in Coachella at the end of July. Jeraldo Mederos of Indio is facing one count of attempted murder, according to court records. His arraignment is scheduled for this afternoon at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.

The incident occurred on July 26th when patrol units from the Thermal sheriff’s station responded to a shooting report in the 51800 block of Calle Techa, reveals Sgt. David Aldrich of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. Upon arrival, they discovered a 32-year-old Coachella resident who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was immediately transported by air to a local hospital and is currently in the process of recovery.

Following the incident, the Thermal sheriff’s station tasked their Special Investigations Unit to conduct an investigation. They identified Jeraldo Mederos and two 15-year-olds as suspects, says Aldrich. One of the teenagers was apprehended on August 2nd in the 47600 block of Oasis Street, while the other was arrested on August 15th in the 52700 block of Frederick Street. Mederos, on the other hand, was arrested on Wednesday in the 47900 block of Arabia Street and is currently being held at the John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio with a bail amount of $1 million.
