Newsworthy: California Governor Newsom’s Incident with Child during Pickup Basketball Game in China Raises Concerns

California Gov. Gavin Newsom was caught on video running over a Chinese child while playing a pickup basketball game during his trip to the country.

The short clip, shared by RNC Research, an arm of the Republican National Committee, shows the California governor displaying his ball-handling skills before colliding with a defending child.

Both Newsom and the young boy fall to the ground, with the governor quickly picking him up and playfully patting his back.

A spokesperson for Newsom’s office told Fox News Digital that the incident occurred at Yuying School, a Beijing public school, during the governor’s visit focused on exploring farm-to-school and agricultural science programs in China.

This mishap took place on Newsom’s week-long trip to China, where he also met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing on Wednesday.

Newsom stated earlier this week that the purpose of the trip was to “turn the page, renew our friendship, and engage in foundational and fundamental issues that will shape our collective future.”

Following the meeting, Newsom reported discussing ways to “accelerate progress on climate change in meaningful and substantive ways” with Xi, as reported by CBS News.

The leaders also addressed the issue of fentanyl, a drug responsible for thousands of deaths in the U.S. that is often trafficked from China to North America.
