Newly Released Philippine Asian Games Roster: Exciting Changes Expected in National Teams

National Teams for Asian Games Announced with Possible Changes

Clockwise from top: Justin Brownlee, Bryan Bagunas, Hali Long, and Ange Kouame were named to their respective national teams for the Asian Games. However, the rosters are subject to change.

The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) submitted the rosters for women’s football, men’s basketball, and men’s volleyball to the Asian Games last July 25. The deadline was set by the organizing committee of the event, which will take place in Hangzhou, China.

The women’s national football team features standout players Sarina Bolden, Olivia McDaniel, and Hali Long from the World Cup. Additionally, 19 players from the historic squad made the initial Asian Games cut. Any changes to the roster would need to be appealed to the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee.

Meanwhile, the men’s basketball team will include seven players from the Gilas Pilipinas 2023 Fiba World Cup roster. Kiefer Ravena, Scottie Thompson, RR Pogoy, June Mar Fajardo, CJ Perez, Japeth Aguilar, and Jamie Malonzo will support naturalized player Justin Brownlee in Hangzhou. The POC emphasized that the list submitted by the national Olympic committee is considered official.

The PBA is expected to announce the Asian Games team on Thursday, with many anticipating that the squad will consist of players from the professional league. Additionally, Chot Reyes is listed as the head coach of Gilas Pilipinas, with Tim Cone as his assistant, despite Reyes stepping down as national coach.

In men’s volleyball, Marck Espejo and Bryan Bagunas lead the Philippine team. The squad will compete in the Asiad for the first time in 49 years under Brazilian coach Sergio Veloso.

The other members of the men’s basketball team include Ange Kouame, Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser, Chris Newsome, and Calvin Oftana. These players were the final cuts from the Gilas squad that finished 24th overall in the ongoing World Cup.
