According to a report by Bloomberg, Foxconn, a key supplier for Apple, has initiated the production of the highly anticipated iPhone 15 in India. This move by Foxconn is part of its strategy to diversify its manufacturing away from China.

Foxconn’s Sriperumbudur plant is preparing to deliver the new iPhones shortly after they start shipping from Chinese factories, as mentioned in Bloomberg’s report, which cites unnamed sources.

Apple has been actively seeking to diversify its supply chain due to the growing tensions between the United States and China. Earlier this year, Apple CEO Tim Cook expressed his views on India being a “huge opportunity” after a meeting with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the White House.

In response to China’s restrictions on the sale of certain U.S. semiconductors and the U.S. government’s actions to limit key technologies and investments in China, Apple has significantly ramped up iPhone production in India. Bloomberg previously reported that Apple assembled iPhones worth over $7 billion in India during the last fiscal year, accounting for nearly 7% of its total production. This marks a significant reduction in the time gap between iPhone assembly in India and China, as it used to lag behind by six to nine months.

Apple traditionally announces its latest iPhone lineup at its annual event in September. According to Bloomberg, this year’s update is expected to feature major camera improvements and an enhanced processor for the Pro models.

In addition to Foxconn, Pegatron and a Wistron factory, which is being acquired by the Tata Group, are also set to commence iPhone 15 assembly in India, as stated in the report.

The companies mentioned in the article did not respond to requests for comment at the time of writing.
