New Look Given to Cold Cases in 3 States following Heuermann’s Arrest

Unsolved murders across the nation are receiving renewed attention following the arrest of suspected serial killer Rex Heuermann. Suffolk County, New York, Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison informed WABC that Heuermann has been charged with the killing of three sex workers on Long Island and is also the main suspect in the murder of another victim found in the Gilgo Beach area. Detectives are now wondering if Heuermann could be connected to other cases in South Carolina, Nevada, and New Jersey. Investigators have been conducting a search of a property in Chester, South Carolina, which Heuermann and his brother purchased in 2021.

The police in Rock Hill, South Carolina, are examining files to determine if there is any correlation between the disappearance of Aaliyah Bell and Rex Heuermann. Lieutenant Michael Chavis stated to the New York Daily News that although there is currently no evidence identifying Heuermann as a suspect in Bell’s case, they will continue to investigate her disappearance and follow up on leads. Additionally, Heuermann owned a timeshare in Las Vegas with his wife, and the Las Vegas police are reviewing their unresolved cases to determine if he may be involved.

Suffolk County police are also investigating the possibility that Heuermann may be linked to crimes in New Jersey. Of particular interest are the unsolved murders of four sex workers in 2006, who were discovered in a ditch along Route 40 near Atlantic City. WABC reports that while Commissioner Harrison has indicated that there may not be a connection, it is essential to thoroughly examine the cases in Las Vegas, South Carolina, and even Atlantic City to ensure that any potential leads or information are not overlooked. Heuermann’s DNA will soon be entered into a national database, allowing law enforcement agencies across the country to access it. This development will aid in further investigations.
