New iPhone 16 Pro Battery Leak Unveils Upgraded Metal Shell Design

Innovative designs for Apple’s iPhones are frequently a hot topic. Recently, a report uncovered Apple’s development of new battery technologies, although their ready availability remains uncertain. However, indications suggest that Apple plans to implement a metal shell within the battery design of its iPhone 16 Pro.

Apple working on new battery design for iPhone 16 Pro

A leaked photo by Kosutami on X (previously Twitter), provides a first glimpse of a battery component rumored to be part of forthcoming iPhones. Kosutami claims that the leaked battery is a prototype intended for the iPhone 16 Pro, with a capacity of 3,355 mAh, only slightly more than the 3,274 mAh battery powering the iPhone 15 Pro.

Unlike traditional foil-covered iPhone batteries, this leaked battery has a metal shell covering atop the same L-shaped design used in Apple’s iPhone batteries.

Apple may decide to employ the same battery design as its current iPhone generations rather than proceed with plans vital to the iPhone 16, considering the announcement is still a year away. However, if the prototype materializes and the tests are favorable, significant improvements and enhanced heat dissipation could be expected.

A shift to a metal shell may improve heat distribution, critical in addressing the overheating concerns voiced by Apple’s users regarding iPhone 15 Pro. Therefore, addressing improved thermals for its next iPhone is a plausible goal for Apple.

It should be noted that Kosutami has a reputable history of revealing Apple-related contents. Kosutami previously shared images of the new Apple Watch FineWoven band, which was proven accurate. Kosutami also posted images of a prototype HomePod with an LCD screen, later corroborated by 9to5Mac’s sources.
