New Global List Unveils La Liste: The World’s Top 1,000 Hotels, Including Nine Impressive Irish Establishments

Adare Manor and Ashford Castle, both receiving a score of 92.50, have tied as the highest-rated hotels in Ireland. Adare Manor, established in the 1950s by the inventor of the Bellini, boasts a legendary bar that remains popular to this day. The hotel features an Olympic-sized outdoor swimming pool at the Canale di San Giorgio Maggiore, which was allegedly the result of a construction confusion between feet and meters. These hotels have earned the title of the best hotel in the world, thanks to a new ranking called the Top 1,000 World’s Best Hotels, compiled by French company La Liste (laliste.com).

Unlike traditional judging panels, La Liste’s rankings are based on a composite score that combines customer ratings from booking websites, reviews from travel magazines, media coverage, and travel guides. This methodology is similar to the one used to produce the company’s renowned global restaurants list. According to Helene Pietrini, the managing director of La Liste, the idea behind the ranking is to provide travelers with a comprehensive resource that inspires them and showcases a variety of great hotels around the world, without focusing solely on the most expensive or luxurious ones.

The rankings by La Liste are not the only ones available to travelers, as various other guides and rankings exist for destinations, restaurants, bars, and airlines. However, La Liste will soon face competition from 50 Best, which will release its own inaugural hotel ranking in September to accompany its influential lists of the World’s Best Restaurants and Bars.

La Liste’s rankings mainly feature luxury hotels, with a significant number of Four Seasons properties appearing in the top 1,600. The list is dominated by hotels in the US, followed by Italy, France, and the UK. However, La Liste aims to include more affordable options and guest homes in the future, expanding the range of accommodations covered.

In addition to the overall rankings, La Liste also awards special honors for ethics, sustainability, and new arrivals. Four hotels, including Bambu Indah in Bali and Six Senses Shaharut in Israel, received awards for ethics and sustainability. New arrivals awards went to hotels such as Atlantis the Royal in Dubai, the Peninsula in Istanbul, and Capella in Sydney.

The scoring system resulted in several ties, with 20 hotels sharing the No. 5 spot and nearly 200 hotels receiving top 10 scores. However, one hotel, Hotel Cipriani, stood out as the undisputed No. 1 with a score of 99.75. According to Pietrini, Hotel Cipriani impressed her during her visit as it exudes history and iconic charm.

Overall, La Liste’s rankings offer travelers a comprehensive resource to explore and be inspired by a wide range of great hotels. The list aims to cater to different preferences beyond luxury and highlight hotels that excel in sustainability and uniqueness. As the hospitality industry continues to evolve, travelers can look forward to more diverse and innovative hotel rankings and guides.
