Despite the lack of sunshine, Britons didn’t hold back on treating themselves to a good time last month, as revealed by new data.

According to Barclays data, the hospitality and leisure industry experienced a surge in spending on getaways, concert tickets, and dining out compared to the previous year.

In addition to shows and concerts, the fastest-growing entertainment categories in July included golf clubs, bowling, and billiards.

Despite the cost of living crisis, entertainment remains a priority for many Brits.

One in 10 individuals is cutting back on other expenses to afford concert and film tickets, with a similar number splurging on tickets despite financial limitations.

Spending on gyms has been less noticeable in July, as summer socializing takes precedence despite the weather.

Bars, pubs, and clubs experienced a 7.6% boost, while restaurants, though still declining, saw a shift from -8.2% to -2.5% between June and July.

Even in the face of higher inflation, consumers aren’t ready to give up their sunny summer getaways, as flight expenditures increased by nearly 40% compared to last year.

Spending on travel agents also rose by 7.8% over the year.

The disappointing weather has led to the rise in popularity of indoor experiences, such as takeaways and at-home recipe kits.
