Joe Burrow secures a record-breaking deal with the Bengals.
The Bengals’ quarterback has recently signed a five-year extension worth $275 million, with $219 million guaranteed, making him the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
This groundbreaking deal sets a new annual record, with Burrow earning an average of $55 million per season over the course of the contract.
While Patrick Mahomes holds the record for the largest total contract value with his 10-year, $450 million deal with the Chiefs in 2019, Burrow now takes the top spot for annual earnings.
In training camp, Burrow suffered a concerning non-contact calf injury. However, all signs point to him being ready for the Bengals’ Week 1 game against their AFC North rivals, the Browns.
“He looks good,” confirmed Bengals head coach Zac Taylor. “We’re monitoring his progress day by day.”
Burrow, however, remains confident in his readiness.
“I’m ready to go. I’m expecting to play,” affirmed the quarterback during a Wednesday interview.
While he refrained from discussing his contract, Burrow expressed his desire to stay with the Bengals for the long term.
“That’s the last thing on my mind right now. I’m focused on beating the Browns… The contract will come when it comes. I’m not worried about it,” said Burrow.
“This is the place I want to be. I intend to spend my entire career here. We’re working towards making that happen.”
Burrow, who led LSU to a national championship victory, was the first overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Although the Bengals fell to the Rams in the Super Bowl of the 2021-22 season, Burrow’s contract extension solidifies his future with the team.
