NBC Chicago reports that authorities are still investigating the origin of the bullets that injured 2 fans at the White Sox game.

An investigation is underway by the Chicago police and the White Sox after two fans were shot during the third inning of Friday night’s game against the Oakland Athletics. The White Sox officials are uncertain whether the bullets came from inside or outside the ballpark.

In a pregame interview on Saturday, Scott Reifert, the White Sox’s Vice President of Communications, stated that there had been no reports of gunshots prior to the incident.

In light of the incident, gun expert and president of Safer USA Consulting Group, David Lombardo, pointed out that bullets have the potential to travel long distances. For example, a 9mm bullet fired from a pistol can travel up to a mile.

The incident occurred around 7:20 p.m. on Friday. Video footage from the White Sox reveals a seemingly normal crowd at the time of the incident. However, a small group of individuals can be seen waving for help, while the rest of the nearby crowd remains unaware and the game continues.

The post-game concert was canceled to allow the police to investigate with the assistance of proper lighting.

Jennifer Yolich, who was seated a few rows away from the incident, shared how her friend discovered a bullet lodged in her sweatshirt. Yolich expressed her surprise at the lack of awareness and response from everyone present.

Chicago police issued a statement, stating that there was no active threat at any point during the incident.

One of the women who was shot in the leg was taken to the hospital and is in fair condition. The other woman suffered a graze on the abdomen but refused treatment.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing and being conducted jointly by the Chicago police and the Chicago White Sox.
