National: Lizzo’s Tour Dancers Stand By the Singer Amidst a Toxic Workplace Lawsuit

A social media account representing Lizzo‘s current dance troupe has expressed support for the singer following allegations of workplace misconduct by several former backup dancers. The dancers, known as the “Big Grrrls,” posted on Instagram expressing their gratitude for the opportunity to perform with Lizzo during her Special Tour. They praised her commitment to character and culture and thanked her for paving the way for dancers like them. A video montage showcasing the dancers’ performances and behind-the-scenes moments accompanied the post.

The identity of the person who wrote the statement on behalf of the dancers is unknown.

This show of support comes shortly after Lizzo was sued by three former dancers—Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez—for alleged misconduct. The dancers accused Lizzo of sexual harassment, body-shaming, and creating a hostile work environment. They also claimed that Lizzo pressured one dancer to engage with a nude performer against their will. The lawsuit further alleged racial and religious harassment, assault, and false imprisonment.

In response to the lawsuit, Lizzo released a statement categorically denying the allegations. She described them as false, outrageous, and sensationalized, expressing her disappointment and defending her work ethic, morals, and respectfulness.

Notably, the attorney representing the former backup dancers, Ron Zambrano, criticized Lizzo’s denial and argued that it exacerbates the emotional distress experienced by his clients. Zambrano accused Lizzo of failing to uphold her own brand and disappointing her fans. He emphasized the trauma caused by Lizzo’s alleged behavior and the negative experiences of other employees who have come forward.

The Big Grrrls dance troupe originated from Lizzo’s Amazon competition series, “Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls,” where Lizzo and her team auditioned backup dancers for her world tour. The Emmy-winning production gave a glimpse into the formation of the troupe and their journey.
