National – Leah Remini files lawsuit against Church of Scientology alleging harassment and defamation

Leah Remini, the well-known actor and former Scientologist, has filed a lawsuit against the Church of Scientology and its leader, David Miscavige. The lawsuit accuses the church of engaging in illegal activities such as harassment, stalking, and defamation. Remini alleges that the church uses “mob-style operations and attacks” to intimidate and harass her and other former members. The lawsuit specifically names Miscavige and the Religious Technology Center, which enforces punishments on behalf of the church.

In a press release, Remini stated that she initiated the lawsuit to put an end to the church’s alleged harassment and unlawful conduct towards anyone labeled as an “enemy” by Scientology. The Church of Scientology and Miscavige have not commented on the lawsuit publicly.

Remini, who joined the church as a child in 1979 and left in 2013, is seeking compensatory and punitive damages for the harm inflicted on her and her career by the Church of Scientology. She claims to have been subjected to psychological torture, defamation, surveillance, harassment, and intimidation by the church and Miscavige for 17 years. Remini intends to use her constitutional rights to speak the truth and report the facts about Scientology.

Remini also stated that she is not the only target of Scientology’s harassment and that thousands of people have experienced similar treatment over the past seven decades. She believes that people should be free to share their experiences with Scientology without fearing retaliation from the organization.

Mike Rinder, a former senior executive of the Church of Scientology, expressed his support for Remini and her lawsuit. Rinder, who left the church in 2007 and has spoken out against the abuse within Scientology, commended Remini’s courage in taking a stand against the organization.

Since leaving the Church of Scientology, Remini has been vocal about the abuses within the organization. In 2016, she produced and co-created the Emmy-winning documentary series “Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath,” which shed light on the experiences of former Scientologists. Remini has also testified in court regarding false rape allegations planted by the church against film director Paul Haggis and has been present during the trial of actor Danny Masterson, who was found guilty of rape.

Leah Remini’s lawsuit marks a significant step in her ongoing battle against the Church of Scientology and its alleged illegal activities. Her courage and determination to speak out against the organization has garnered support from many who believe in exposing the truth about Scientology.
