National: Justin Trudeau Commences Indo-Pacific Tour, Begins with Arrival in Jakarta

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau arrived in Jakarta on Tuesday to begin a six-day tour of the Indo-Pacific region.

Trudeau and his son Xavier were welcomed by Indonesian dancers and presented with a traditional scarf.

Trudeau will spend two days in Jakarta, where he is scheduled to meet with President Joko Widodo on Tuesday evening.

On Wednesday, the prime minister will speak at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations as the 10-nation bloc prepares to establish Ottawa as its newest strategic partner.

Trudeau’s main focus on this trip is building relationships with Asian leaders and advancing trade negotiations.

He will also visit Singapore to meet with business leaders before concluding his trip at the G20 Summit in India.
