National accuses Brad Pitt of ‘looting’ French winery co-owned with Angelina Jolie

The legal dispute between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie over Château Miraval, a French winery they owned together, has escalated, leading to a new court filing. The filing accuses Pitt of behaving like a “petulant child” after Jolie sold her share of the venture.

Jolie’s former investment company, Nouvel, which previously owned a significant stake in Château Miraval before selling it to Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler, is now suing Pitt for a minimum of US$350 million, according to the Financial Times.

Nouvel alleges that Pitt “stripped” and “looted” Château Miraval of its assets by using company funds on unnecessary renovations. The court filing states that Pitt wasted millions on vanity projects, including over US$1 million on swimming pool renovations, multiple reconstructions of a staircase, and expensive restoration of a recording studio.

The court filing also claims that Pitt spent almost a million euros per year rebuilding stone walls with stone masons from Croatia.

Nouvel’s lawyers argue that Pitt’s “misconduct” increased in 2021 after Jolie decided to sell the investment company and her share of the winery to Tenute del Mondo, a subsidiary of Stoli Group, owned by Shefler.

“Furious that Jolie sold Nouvel to Stoli instead of him, Pitt has acted immaturely, refusing to treat Nouvel as an equal partner in the business,” the filing states.

Pitt initially sued Jolie in February 2022 after she sold her share of the winery, initiating their legal battle. Pitt claimed that they had agreed to sell their stakes in Château Miraval separately with the other’s consent, a claim Jolie has denied.

Jolie countersued, stating that she sold her part of the winery to achieve greater financial independence from Pitt after their 2016 divorce, and to find peace and closure for herself and their children. She claimed that negotiations for the sale broke down when Pitt insisted on signing a nondisclosure agreement that would prohibit her from speaking about his physical and emotional abuse of her and their children outside of court.

In the countersuit, Jolie reveals an incident where Pitt allegedly poured beer on her and their children. She explains that she felt uncomfortable being involved in an alcohol-related business with Pitt.

The countersuit also brings to light allegations of physical and verbal abuse by Pitt during a private jet flight in 2016, involving Jolie and their children.

The filing states that Pitt “choked one of the children and struck another in the face” and “grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her.” The FBI investigated the incident in 2016 but did not press charges against Pitt.
