The Phoenix Mercury unveiled their newest head coach, Nate Tibbetts, during a morning press conference on Friday. With no prior experience in the WNBA, Tibbetts sees this opportunity as a chance to step up as a head coach and continue his personal growth. He stated, “heck of an opportunity to become a head coach and continue to grow,” said.

Despite his lack of experience in the league, Tibbetts is reportedly the highest-paid coach in the WNBA now, surpassing Becky Hammon, who recently led the Las Vegas Aces to their second WNBA championship in just two years since being hired.

Tibbetts’ hiring faced criticism from prominent figures in women’s basketball, including former Notre Dame women’s basketball coach Reference
