NASCAR Driver Noah Gragson Faces Racing Suspension Over Social Media Behavior

CNN

NASCAR driver Noah Gragson has been indefinitely suspended by NASCAR and his team, Legacy Motor Club, for his “actions” on social media. As a result, Gragson will not participate in the upcoming NASCAR Cup Series race on Sunday.

Social media users shared a screenshot allegedly showing Gragson’s Instagram account liking a meme that mocked George Floyd, an African American man who was killed by a White police officer in Minneapolis in 2020. Neither NASCAR nor Legacy Motor Club specified the exact reason for the suspension, and CNN has not independently verified the post.

Gragson expressed his apologies in a post on Twitter on Saturday, acknowledging his lack of attention and actions on social media. He emphasized his commitment to treating everyone equally regardless of their identity and admitted to making a mistake.

Legacy Motor Club suspended Gragson indefinitely, stating that his actions do not align with their team values. In the upcoming Cup Series race at Michigan, Gragson will be replaced by driver Josh Berry.

NASCAR announced its full support for Gragson’s suspension, highlighting that his social media actions violated the Member Conduct section of the 2023 NASCAR Rule Book.

CNN has reached out to NASCAR for further information regarding the situation.

Gragson, a 25-year-old driver in his first year in the Cup Series, currently holds the 33rd position in points and has not achieved any top-10 finishes this season.
