Nancy Marks, Treasurer for George Santos, Confesses Guilt – Unveiling the Latest Political Scandal

Nancy Marks, the former treasurer of Republican Rep. George Santos’ congressional campaign, admitted guilt to a federal conspiracy charge on Thursday. According to federal prosecutors, Marks fabricated the names of donors to the campaign in order to falsely inflate the amount of money donated and qualify for national party support, as stated by ABC News. Prosecutors revealed that relatives of Marks and Santos were listed as having loaned $500,000 to the campaign, despite lacking the financial means to do so. “I was aware that the loan had not been made,” Marks confessed to the court, according to the New York Times.

The experienced figure in New York politics acknowledged guilt to one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States by committing one or more federal crimes, as reported by CNN. Marks was released on bond. In court, Marks’ attorney identified “co-conspirator #1” as Santos, whose lawyer was present for the hearing on Thursday. Santos has pleaded not guilty to 13 counts of his own. Although Marks has not entered into an agreement with the court to cooperate in the case against others, her lawyer, Raymond Perini, stated that “if they subpoena her, she’ll do the right thing.” (Read more George Santos stories.)
