Musk Announces X’s Intention to Remove Block Feature, Previously Known as Twitter

Elon Musk, the brilliant mind behind the platform formerly known as Twitter, announced on Friday his intention to eliminate the ability to block individual accounts.

“Block is going to be removed as a feature, except for DMs,” Musk declared in a tweet on the now-renamed X platform, adding, “It simply doesn’t make sense.”

He later clarified that users will still have the ability to mute accounts and block others in direct messaging. As of Friday afternoon, the blocking feature for accounts remained available on the social media platform.

However, it remains uncertain how this decision may impact the app’s presence on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, both of which mandate platforms with user-generated content to include blocking functionality.

This move is just the most recent in a series of controversial changes made to the platform since Musk acquired the company for a staggering $44 billion last year. The most noticeable change has been Twitter’s rebranding to X, which involved replacing its iconic blue bird logo with the letter “X.”

Musk has also modified various content moderation rules, allowed previously banned individuals back on the platform, and replaced the traditional verification system with a subscription-based model since assuming control of the company.
