Moscow Buildings and Crimean Weapons Store Targeted by Drones

Stay updated on the War in Ukraine with our free daily email newsletter. We’ll provide a comprehensive roundup of the latest news every morning. According to Russian officials, two drones crashed into buildings in Moscow, while over a dozen targeted Crimea, with one hitting a weapons cache on the annexed peninsula. The attacks were allegedly conducted by Ukraine. Yesterday, Russia launched a missile attack on Odesa, a Ukrainian port city, resulting in one death and severe damage to the historic cathedral. This marks the fourth time drones have reached Moscow since May. However, Ukraine usually does not take responsibility for strikes in Russian territory and Crimea. Nevertheless, a senior official hinted that Kyiv might have carried out the attacks using its “army of drones.” Russia’s defense ministry claimed to have successfully neutralized the drones in Moscow using electromagnetic warfare. Videos showed one drone crashing into a glass office building, causing substantial damage, while another hit a low-rise building, causing minor damage to the roof. The defense minister also stated that 17 drones were launched at Crimea, but all were either shot down or suppressed using electromagnetic defenses. Ukraine’s deputy prime minister remarked that electronic warfare and air defense are becoming less effective against the occupiers. Ukraine’s strategy is to neutralize Russia’s military threat from Crimea, which has been heavily militarized since its annexation in 2014. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested that further strikes could be conducted on the Crimean Bridge. Ukrainian officials claimed that Russia conducted a drone strike on the port of Reni, near the border with Romania. This resulted in silos being set ablaze, affecting Ukraine’s grain exports. Romania’s president strongly condemned the attack as a provocation against Ukraine and NATO, as it was conducted near the border with a NATO country.
