The ITV morning programme, renowned for its consistent success in the daytime category over the past few years, is set to compete against The Chase, Loose Women, and The Repair Shop at this year’s award ceremony held at The O2 in London. However, This Morning has recently faced allegations of a toxic and bullying environment behind the scenes following Phillip Schofield’s resignation from ITV in May due to an “unwise but not illegal” relationship with a younger male colleague on the show. Despite the controversy, Schofield and Holly Willoughby were originally longlisted for the best TV presenter award along with Alison Hammond, Dermot O’Leary, Rylan Clark, and Martin Lewis. However, only Hammond and Lewis made it to the final nominations.
Prior to the NTA’s, Willoughby and Hammond made a comeback on the ITV show, opening the program from outside the TV studio alongside the cast of Mamma Mia! The Party. At the awards, Hammond and Lewis will be competing against Anthony McPartlin, Declan Donnelly, Claudia Winkleman, and Bradley Walsh.
In recognition of their exceptional work, Dame Deborah James and Paul O’Grady have been posthumously nominated. Dame Deborah, who sadly passed away last year at the age of 40 due to bowel cancer, has been nominated for her authored documentary Bowelbabe In Her Own Words. O’Grady, a beloved TV presenter and comedian who also unfortunately passed away earlier this year, has received a nomination in the factual entertainment category for his show For The Love of Dogs.
The Bruce Forsyth entertainment award will be contested by I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, Saturday Night Takeaway, Gogglebox, and The Masked Singer, with two shows from Donnelly and McPartlin being nominated. The best talent show category will see Britain’s Got Talent, Strictly Come Dancing, The Great British Bake Off, and The Great British Sewing Bee vying for the prize.
Piers Morgan has been nominated in the new TV interviews category for his show Piers Morgan Uncensored on Talk TV, along with Louis Theroux Interviews…, The Chris & Rosie Ramsey Show, and The Graham Norton Show. The new drama category includes nominations for Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, Blue Lights, Beyond Paradise, and Wednesday, featuring Jenna Ortega as the iconic Wednesday Addams from The Addams Family.
India Amarteifio, known for her role as Queen Charlotte in the Bridgerton prequel, has been nominated for the drama performance award alongside James Norton and Sarah Lancashire from Happy Valley, Brenda Blethyn from Vera, and Judy Parfitt from Call the Midwife.
Other categories to look out for include serial drama, serial drama performance, comedy, rising star, and quiz game show. The NTAs will be hosted by comedian Joel Dommett for the third consecutive year and will be broadcast live on ITV1 on Tuesday at 8pm.
