July 19 (UPI) — Executive producer Peyton Manning confirmed that Netflix’s show “Quarterback” has been renewed for a second season, and many NFL stars have expressed interest in being featured on the show.

Manning made the announcement during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show. He revealed that “a lot” of NFL quarterbacks are eager to star in the upcoming season.

The first season of “Quarterback” showcased the lives of Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota during the 2022 NFL season. Viewers were given an inside look at their interactions with teammates, families, and communities. The show premiered on July 12.

Manning expressed excitement for the second season and mentioned that having more quarterbacks onboard will make the process easier. He dismissed concerns about the show being a distraction, citing Mahomes, Cousins, and Mariota as examples of players who were able to handle it well.

“Quarterback” ranked as the sixth most-watched English-language TV program on Netflix last week, with 3.3 million views. The show accumulated over 21 million hours of views.

Manning revealed that a “few quarterbacks” declined the offer to participate in the show’s first season. However, he believes that the success of Mahomes and others will motivate more quarterbacks to join in season two.

Manning’s argument against “Quarterback” being a distraction aligns with the NFL’s decision to feature the New York Jets on the upcoming season of “Hard Knocks.” This longstanding show has often been criticized for its potential to disrupt teams as they prepare for the season.

According to ESPN, the Jets initially didn’t want to be featured on the show. Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers also voiced his lack of desire to appear on “Hard Knocks” during an interview. The NFL can require teams to participate in the show under certain conditions.
