It appears that Ronald Acuña’s chances of winning the NL MVP are not guaranteed. Mookie Betts has now taken the lead in bWAR with a score of 7.6 compared to Acuña’s 6.5, and in OPS with a score of 1.021 versus Acuña’s .982. Freddie Freeman (6.0, .998) and Matt Olson (.969, 43 HRs, 112 RBIs) are also potential contenders.
While Acuña leads the NL in hits (178) and on-base percentage (.416), and is on track to become a 30-60 man (29 homers, 61 steals), Betts stands out with his remarkable positional versatility. He can play right field, second base, and even shortstop. This versatility gives Betts the edge in my opinion.
