A toy drive supporting the Los Angeles County Toy Loan Program will commence on Monday at six different locations.
Heather Johnson, a spokeswoman for LA Sanitation & Environment, the organization organizing the drive, has requested educational games and toys, video games and gaming consoles, dolls and stuffed animals, as well as toys designed for children with functional needs or disabilities.
Johnson emphasized that violent toys or those resembling weapons should not be donated.
According to Johnson, the program helps provide toys to over 30,000 low-income children every year.
Toys can be donated on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until August 25 at the following locations:
– East Valley District Yard, 11050 Pendleton St., Sun Valley;
– West Valley District Yard, 8840 Vanalden Ave., Northridge;
– North Central District Yard, 452 N. San Fernando Road, Lincoln Heights;
– West Los Angeles District Yard, 2027 Stoner Ave., West Los Angeles;
– Harbor District Yard, 1400 N. Gaffey St., San Pedro;
– Public Works Building, 1149 S. Broadway, downtown Los Angeles.
All locations will be closed on July 4.
The toy drive is part of the department’s annual efforts to support low-income individuals, those experiencing homelessness, and to reduce landfill waste, Johnson explained. In addition to toys, the department also conducts drives for food, clothing, condiments and utensils, toiletries, blankets, and socks.
The department’s responsibilities include the collection, cleaning, and recycling of solid and liquid waste from residential, commercial, and industrial users in Los Angeles and surrounding communities.
