Oct. 6 (UPI) — Momo the monkey, who safely captures everyone’s attention with his adventures and escapades, has once again found himself in the spotlight. This time, Momo was captured in Indianapolis and transported to a local zoo for a thorough veterinary examination.
The Indianapolis Metro Police Department reported that Momo, a playful patas monkey, managed to escape from his home in the east side of the city on a sunny Wednesday afternoon. The news soon spread like wildfire, keeping citizens on high alert for any sightings of the mischievous primate.
During a news conference, Lt. William Carter enlightened the public on Momo’s daring escapade. A 911 call from a distressed citizen claimed that a monkey, later identified as Momo, was attempting to enter her home. However, by the time the officers arrived at the scene, Momo had vanished into the nearby woods, leaving behind a trail of intrigue.
Following an intensive search, law enforcement agencies were able to locate Momo in an abandoned house. A well-executed plan managed to corral the elusive monkey into a bathroom, securing his temporary capture. The situation took a heartwarming turn when Momo’s compassionate brother arrived at the scene to provide emotional support and facilitate his safe handover to animal care services.
Momo was then promptly taken to the esteemed Indianapolis Zoo, where an experienced veterinary team awaited his arrival. The team is set to evaluate Momo’s health and well-being, ensuring that he is in prime condition after his recent escapade. All eyes are on the zoo, eagerly awaiting updates on Momo’s progress and recovery.
While Momo’s adventure garnered media attention and captured the hearts of the public, the incident did not go unnoticed by the authorities. Police reported that Momo’s owner will be issued a citation for allowing the monkey to chase people on the street in a menacing manner. However, it is important to note that there have been no reports of Momo biting or causing harm to anyone during his escapades.
The fate of Momo remains uncertain. A previous incident in July, where Momo escaped his home for a brief period, begs the question of whether he will be returned to his owner once the dust settles. The legalities and responsibilities surrounding pet monkeys are being carefully considered.
Indianapolis, a city filled with surprises and remarkable stories, allows for the keeping of monkeys as pets. Momo’s recent escapades have shed light on the unique bond between humans and animals, encouraging discussions about responsible pet ownership and the importance of balancing freedom with safety.
