A new development in traffic management in Manila?
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is preparing to introduce handheld devices for the single ticketing system in July. MMDA acting chairman Don Artes stated, “There will be a soft launch in the first or second week of July. We will also invite the supplier to address any potential flaws or glitches in the implementation of the STS (single ticketing system).”
These handheld ticketing devices will be able to print citation tickets, validate and authenticate driver’s licenses and vehicle registrations, check for demerit points, and determine the status of license and vehicle registration. They will also accept cashless payments for fines.
The MMDA has requested for the devices to be equipped with dual SIM cards to improve signal reception.
The first batch of devices has already been delivered and customized for five local government units: San Juan, Quezon City, Valenzuela, Parañaque, and Caloocan.
Training for traffic enforcers on the use of the devices will begin on June 27.
The single ticketing system centralizes traffic fines, allowing them to be paid online.
