MIAMI, Aug. 30 (UPI) — Tampa Bay Rays players remain unfazed and focused on their playoff journey despite the extended absence of All-Star Wander Franco, as the 22-year-old shortstop faces investigations by MLB and Dominican Republic authorities for alleged inappropriate relationships with underage individuals.
The return of Franco to the team remains uncertain. However, the team is choosing not to let the situation drain their energy, with second baseman Brandon Lowe stating, “What are you going to take for truth? What someone says on Twitter versus what’s actually happening? It’s a very weird situation that none of us have been in before.”
Franco has been on administrative leave since Aug. 22, and his future with the team is unclear. Despite his absence, the Rays have continued to perform strongly on the field.
The Rays’ record since Franco’s departure has seen them win 10 out of 14 games, with solid statistics in various categories. They currently possess the best run differential, home run count, and stolen base count in the American League. Their pitching staff is also excelling, holding the second-lowest hits and runs allowed in the league.
Franco’s absence has not hindered the team’s cohesion or performance, as they have maintained a positive mindset and focused on their own contributions to the game.

“We trust the 26 guys there in the clubhouse, and we’re gonna back one another and do the little things we have to do to win games,” said outfielder Josh Lowe.
