July 5 (UPI) — MLB announced the addition of Kyle Tucker, Wander Franco, and Julio Rodriguez as replacement players for the injured baseball stars in the All-Star Game rosters.

The replacement players were named on Tuesday night, with the annual Midsummer Classic set to take place in Seattle next Tuesday.

“I’m incredibly excited,” Rodriguez said during a press conference. “Stepping onto the field in front of the Mariners’ fans in Seattle will truly be a dream come true for me.”

Rodriguez, a star player for the Seattle Mariners, will be replacing designated hitter-outfielder Yordan Alvarez on the American League roster. This season, Rodriguez has achieved a batting average of .248 with 13 home runs, 47 RBIs, and 20 stolen bases.

Alvarez has been sidelined since June 8 due to an oblique strain. Prior to his injury, he had a batting average of .277 with 17 home runs and 55 RBIs in 57 games for the Houston Astros.

Franco has been selected to replace New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge in the American League lineup. Judge, elected as a starter, suffered a toe injury on June 3. He currently holds a batting average of .291 with 19 home runs and 40 RBIs in 49 games this season, making him the reigning American League MVP and home run champion.

Franco, the third-year shortstop for the Tampa Bay Rays, was noticeably excluded when the All-Star rosters were initially announced on Sunday night. He boasts a batting average of .286 with 10 home runs, 43 RBIs, and 27 stolen bases in 81 games this season.

Tucker, on the other hand, will be replacing Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout, who fractured his wrist on Monday and was subsequently placed on the injured list. Trout had a batting average of .263 with 18 home runs and 44 RBIs in his first 81 games this season. Tucker, a player for the Houston Astros, has achieved a batting average of .293 with 13 home runs, 55 RBIs, and 14 stolen bases in 84 games.

Pittsburgh Pirates relief pitcher David Bednar has been selected to replace Los Angeles Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw on the National League roster. Bednar currently holds a 3-0 record with a 1.36 ERA and 16 saves in 32 appearances during the 2023 season.

Kershaw is currently dealing with shoulder soreness and has a record of 10-4 with a 2.55 ERA in 16 starts. He is a three-time Cy Young Award winner.

Mariners pitcher George Kirby will replace Rays starter George McClanahan on the American League roster. Kirby has a 7-7 record with a 3.21 ERA in seven starts this season.

McClanahan was placed on the injured list due to a back injury. He currently holds the best record in MLB with an 11-1 record and a 2.53 ERA in his first 17 starts this season.

The 2023 MLB All-Star Game will be broadcasted at 8 p.m. EDT on Tuesday by Fox, while the Home Run Derby will be aired at 8 p.m. on Monday by ESPN.
