Mira Sorvino bounces back with triumphant win on ‘Celebrity Jeopardy!’ following challenging ‘DWTS’ experience

Actress Mira Sorvino has had a rollercoaster week. Just a day after unexpectedly exiting Dancing With the Stars, she appeared on an episode of Celebrity Jeopardy! and emerged as the winner. Sorvino’s eventful week has been full of both highs and lows.

Sorvino’s victory on Celebrity Jeopardy! was a result of her bold bet, which allowed her to join an exclusive club. This came right after she was voted off DWTS as the fifth person eliminated this season. Let’s take a closer look at Sorvino’s week so far.

Dancing With the Stars

On Tuesday’s episode of DWTS, the theme was Most Memorable Year. Sorvino chose the year 2004, the year her daughter Mattea was born. She performed a contemporary routine with partner Gleb Savchenko, featuring Mattea, who is also a dancer. They danced to Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time” and scored 22 out of 30, placing eighth out of 10. However, fan votes also factor into the show’s results. When it came time for elimination, Sorvino was disappointed to hear her name called.

She tearfully expressed her gratitude for the incredible experience and the fulfillment of her dreams.

Celebrity Jeopardy!

In Celebrity Jeopardy!, Sorvino competed against actor Adam Rodriguez and NFL Network personality Peter Schrager. During her interview, Sorvino mentioned using the Jeopardy! game app for practice, but she couldn’t afford the paid version, so she had to deal with ads interrupting her practice sessions. Host Ken Jennings tried to console her by pointing out that the actual show also has commercials, making her experience similar to the real thing.

Sorvino was informed that she had been a Jeopardy! clue nine times and she is only the second Oscar winner to appear on Celebrity Jeopardy!, following Jodie Foster. Sorvino found this to be both daunting and exciting.

Heading into Final Jeopardy, Sorvino held a $400 lead over Schrager with a total of $12,200. The category was Tween Lit, and all three contestants provided the correct answer, which was “who is Judy Blume?” Schrager’s wager bumped his total from $11,800 to $19,000, so Sorvino needed a big bet to secure her win. True to form, she bet almost her entire amount and ended up with $24,200, over $5,000 more than Schrager.

Jennings congratulated Sorvino for being one of two people in the world to have won both Celebrity Jeopardy! and an Academy Award, joining Jodie Foster in this achievement. Sorvino participated in the game show to support the UN Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Trafficking in Persons, aiming to help trafficking victims rebuild and reclaim their lives.

Viewers have expressed their excitement and support for Sorvino on social media, cheering for her bounce back. She now advances to the semi-finals of the celebrity tournament and remains in the running for a $1 million grand prize for her chosen charity.

Dancing With the Stars airs on Tuesdays, and Celebrity Jeopardy! airs on Wednesdays on ABC.
