Miley Cyrus Invested in Herself: Self-Funded 2014 ‘Bangerz’ Tour Failed to Generate Profits

Miley Cyrus recently shared that she didn’t earn any money from her 2015 “Bangerz” tour, emphasizing that she saw it as an “investment.” In her “Used to be Young” series on TikTok, the former “Hannah Montana” star explained that her extravagant stage sets were ideas that no one else believed in or supported. From large puppets to oversized beds, Cyrus wanted to bring her creative vision to life. Collaborating with creative director Diane Martel, the 30-year-old artist aimed to make the tour a true reflection of her artistic vision. The “Bangerz” tour featured costumed dancers, a car, a giant puppet, and a slide designed to resemble her tongue emerging from a giant picture of her face. Notably, Cyrus wanted to conclude the show with a reference to the movie “The Truman Show,” where the protagonist realizes that his entire life has been a TV show. To achieve this, she flew out on a giant hotdog, just like Jim Carrey’s character in the film. Despite the tour’s massive success, grossing over $62 million, Cyrus revealed that she didn’t earn any money from it because she wanted the show to be extraordinary. In her own words, she stated, “There’s no one I’d rather invest in than myself,” demonstrating her dedication to providing an exceptional experience for both herself and her fans.
