Mike Lindell and MyPillow’s Attorneys Seek to Abandon Due to Substantial Unpaid Fees, Valued in Millions

Attorneys for Mike Lindell and MyPillow are seeking court approval to withdraw from representing him, citing unpaid fees in the millions of dollars, according to a court document filed on Thursday. The lawyers requested permission to drop their representation, stating that Lindell and MyPillow are unable to pay their outstanding debts and future legal expenses.

In an interview with CBS MoneyWatch, Lindell expressed his financial inability to cover the attorneys’ monthly costs, which he claimed amounted to $2 million. He attributed his financial strain to personal investments and the decline of his bedding company, including a substantial loss of $7 million following the discontinuation of his product line by major retailers like Walmart. Additionally, Lindell mentioned his credit line with American Express being reduced earlier this year.

“I have $10,000 to my name”

“We’re not able to pay — I can’t borrow money to pay these attorneys. MyPillow can’t pay because of what happened” with lost sales, Lindell said. “I have $10,000 to my name.”

The attorneys had previously represented Lindell, a vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump, and MyPillow in defamation cases initiated by voting machine manufacturers Smartmatic and Dominion Voting Systems, as well as a former Dominion executive.

The voting machine companies alleged that Lindell made false claims regarding rigged voting machines. A similar defamation case filed by Dominion against Fox News resulted in a record-setting $787.5 million settlement earlier this year.

Lindell affirmed his commitment to the lawsuits, vowing to never settle with these companies. However, he acknowledged that he understood his attorneys’ decision to withdraw representation, acknowledging their own financial obligations and responsibilities.

MyPillow auction

The attorneys’ withdrawal comes after MyPillow held an auction in July, selling over 700 pieces of company equipment ranging from forklifts to office furniture. Lindell explained in an interview with CBS Minneapolis that this auction reflected a shift from relying on sales in big-box and mall stores to a direct-to-consumer strategy. He stated that MyPillow was forced to act swiftly due to the cancellation of his product by stores such as Walmart and Bed Bath & Beyond, resulting in a surplus inventory that needed to be managed.

Lindell also revealed that news of his legal and business troubles had caused concerns among his suppliers, adding to his challenges. He expressed hope for a boost in sales during the holiday season, with the company introducing new products like two types of towels, expected to arrive in three weeks.

Slow payments

The attorneys stated in their court filing that Lindell and MyPillow had been making timely payments until the end of 2022, but payment delays began in 2023. They noted that litigation fees and costs had significantly increased during this time. In May 2023, payments began to be more than 60 days late and only partial payments were made.

The law firm, Parker Daniels Kibort (PDK), disclosed that it had not received any payment for its invoices from July and August and had warned Lindell and MyPillow that it would withdraw representation if payment was not made. The motion to withdraw was filed after Lindell informed PDK on October 2 that he could not fulfill the payment obligation.

Despite his ongoing legal battles, Lindell reiterated his determination to continue fighting against the voting machine companies.

“Would I do it again? Absolutely,” he declared. “I spent $50 million of my own money. It’s all gone. But I would do it again.”
