Michael Cohen, the former personal lawyer of ex-President Donald Trump, has reached a settlement in his lawsuit against the Trump Organization, in which he sought $1.3 million in legal fees, as reported by NBC News on Friday.
The exact amount of the settlement has not been disclosed.
“This matter has been resolved to the satisfaction of all parties,” stated Cohen in an interview with NBC News.
The Trump Organization declined to comment, but a company source confirmed the settlement to NBC.
A trial for this case was slated to commence on Monday at the New York state court in Manhattan.
In 2019, Cohen filed a lawsuit against Trump’s company for its failure to pay the previously agreed-upon legal fees relating to his testimony before various congressional committees in 2017 and 2018 during Trump’s presidency.
In one of his appearances before the Senate Intelligence Committee in 2017, Cohen misled about plans for a Trump building in Moscow, Russia.
In 2018, Cohen pleaded guilty to federal crimes related to the aforementioned false testimony, as well as other financial crimes and campaign finance violations. Among his admissions was the facilitation of hush money payments to two women, Stormy Daniels (a porn star) and Karen McDougal (a Playboy model), in order to keep them silent about alleged sexual encounters with Trump.
Trump has consistently denied engaging in sexual activity with either woman.
Earlier this year, Trump was indicted by a Manhattan state court grand jury on charges of falsifying business records linked to Cohen’s payment to Daniels. He has entered a not guilty plea in this case, where Cohen is expected to testify during the trial next year.
