Mets’ Rising Star Brett Baty Sidelined with Groin Injury After Impressive Two-Hit Performance

An eventful night for Brett Baty transformed into a concerning evening.

Despite going hitless in his previous five games, Baty managed to single in two of his three at-bats on Wednesday. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to complete his fourth at-bat. The young third baseman was removed from the game before the start of the seventh inning due to left groin soreness, which will require further tests, according to the club.

After the Mets’ 7-1 victory over the Diamondbacks at Citi Field, manager Buck Showalter revealed that Baty had been dealing with some discomfort in his groin recently. The issue worsened when he was running the bases in the bottom of the sixth inning, causing his groin to stiffen up.

When Baty went out to field his position in the next inning, Showalter and a trainer approached him on the field for a conversation. As a result, the 23-year-old was substituted by Jonathan Arauz. Baty is scheduled to undergo imaging on Thursday morning to further assess the injury.

Baty had been mired in a frustrating 0-for-15 slump, which he finally broke with his singles to right field and center field. He also managed to score twice for the team.

This season has been a challenging one for the rookie. After making his way to the majors in April, he struggled against major league pitching and was eventually demoted in August.

Brett Baty, who had two hits before exiting with a groin injury, scores on Pete Alonso's two-run double in the fifth inning of the Mets' 7-1 win over the Diamondbacks.
