Metastasis of Cancer Uncovered by NY1 Anchor Ruschell Boone

Beloved NY1 news anchor Ruschell Boone delivered heartbreaking news on Thursday, revealing that her struggle with cancer has unfortunately taken a turn for the worse. Despite her brave return to the air following treatment for pancreatic cancer, Boone shared on Twitter that her cancer has now metastasized in her liver, and she is back in treatment. However, she remains optimistic, stating that the chemotherapy is working.

Boone expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of support she has received from those who have reached out to check on her. She acknowledged the power of prayers in helping her through the difficult moments and thanked everyone for their continued support and well wishes.

When approached for comment, Boone’s response was not immediately available. NY1, the cable channel she works for, stated that there is no specific timeline for her return. A spokesperson for NY1 emphasized that Boone’s health is her top priority, and she will take the necessary time off for treatment and recovery.

Boone’s return to the anchor chair in March was a significant milestone in her cancer journey. She had previously battled pancreatic cancer for nine months, enduring the brutal effects of chemotherapy. However, upon her return, she assured viewers that she was feeling great.

During her time back at NY1, Boone had the opportunity to interview New York City Mayor Eric Adams. The mayor took to Twitter, expressing his gratitude for Boone’s return and praising her important role in holding people in positions of power accountable.

Boone’s journey with cancer began in early 2021 when she experienced vague stomach discomfort. Eventually, the symptoms progressed into unbearable pain, prompting her to seek medical attention. A CT scan in June 2022 delivered the devastating diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.

Recalling that moment, Boone described her initial disbelief and fear for her family’s future. The idea of her children growing up without a mother was devastating. Pancreatic cancer, known for its high fatality rates, has claimed the lives of well-known individuals such as Steve Jobs, Alex Trebek, and Patrick Swayze. The five-year survival rate for this type of cancer is less than 10%, according to the National Cancer Institute. Typically, symptoms only manifest once the cancer has spread to other organs, making successful treatment extremely challenging.

Fortunately, Boone’s cancer was caught early, giving her a fighting chance. Since her diagnosis, she has taken on the role of an advocate, actively participating in events and fundraisers related to pancreatic cancer. She recently served as an emcee and participant in the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s Purple Stride walk, held in April. Boone has also shown her support by attending Memorial Sloan Kettering’s Comedy vs Cancer fundraiser.

As we stand with Ruschell Boone during this challenging time, let us continue to offer our support, prayers, and well wishes. Her bravery and resilience inspire us all, and we hope for her full recovery and return to the anchor desk where she belongs.
