These investigations continue as our committees work together to gather testimony, investigate misconduct, and uncover the truth. Despite attempts by the media and the Biden administration to downplay and disrupt these efforts, Chairman Jim Jordan of the Judiciary Committee, Chairman James Comer of the Oversight Committee, and Chairman Jason Smith of the Ways and Means Committee are leading the charge.
Here’s what we have discovered so far: After a lengthy investigation, Hunter Biden, the president’s son, received a favorable plea deal from his father’s Department of Justice, allowing him to avoid more serious charges of money laundering and working as an unregistered lobbyist. Attorney General Merrick Garland claims there has been no interference in the Hunter Biden probe. However, whistleblowers have provided compelling evidence that disputes Garland’s statement.
The Ways and Means Committee learned that U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who was in charge of the Hunter Biden investigation, sought to bring charges in two other districts but was denied both times. Weiss also allegedly sought special counsel status but was refused. IRS agent Gary Shapley, present at the time, confirmed these events in an email. Furthermore, political interference from the Biden administration prevented investigators from taking necessary steps in the case, such as allowing the statute of limitations to run out on Hunter Biden’s tax evasion charges.
When investigators found a WhatsApp message from Hunter Biden to a Chinese energy firm executive, indicating that he was with his father, President Biden, and questioning unfulfilled commitments, prosecutors refused to authorize search warrants or obtain location data to confirm the president’s location. This raises concerns about obstruction of justice.
These actions suggest a cover-up and raise serious questions about the credibility of the Department of Justice. Attorney General Garland has a duty to uphold equal justice under the law, but if the whistleblowers’ allegations are true, it appears he lied to Congress under oath. Our committees will continue to gather evidence and conduct oversight to ensure the truth is revealed for the American people. If necessary, the House could consider a formal impeachment inquiry, conducted transparently and without partisan missteps, to hold the Department of Justice accountable.
