Allein Maliksi had a remarkable homecoming as Meralco crushed Barangay Ginebra, 106-93, in the PBA On Tour event at University of Santo Tomas’ Quadricentennial Pavilion. Maliksi had 13 of his 23 points in the first quarter, which played a crucial role in Meralco’s dominance throughout the game despite the Gin Kings’ attempts at a comeback. The win improved Meralco’s record in the exhibition series to 5-3.
Maliksi, a former player for the University of Santo Tomas, showcased his skills by making 8-of-16 shots. The victory came just three days after Meralco suffered a heavy defeat against undefeated Magnolia. However, coach Luigi Trillo believes there are still areas that need improvement for the team to achieve consistency. Coach Trillo will not be calling the shots for the remaining On Tour games as he will be attending a seminar and the NBA Summer League in the United States.
Ginebra’s loss spoiled the return of Aljon Mariano to his former school, UST. Mariano contributed eight points, four rebounds, and two steals for the Gin Kings. Ginebra’s record now stands at 4-4. Maliksi’s impressive shooting performance gave Meralco a comfortable 37-21 lead
