Two juvenile delinquents involved in a robbery of a mailman in Menifee and subsequently leading law enforcement on a thrilling chase before crashing have been apprehended and are currently under custody.
The incident took place around 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday at Cathedral Street, near Canterbury Street, as reported by the Menifee Police Department.
According to Chase Coburn, the spokesperson for the agency, the victim, an unnamed U.S. Postal Service worker, was delivering mail in a residential area when he was confronted by the two youths. They were armed with a gun and demanded both his personal belongings and the mail.
In an act of compliance, the victim handed them over, while the duo quickly fled in a Kia Optima, revealed Coburn.
Subsequently, the mail carrier provided law enforcement with a description of the suspects and their getaway car, which Menifee police officers promptly broadcasted to neighboring agencies.
Approximately three hours later, the Riverside County sheriff’s deputies spotted the vehicle just outside of Menifee and attempted to carry out a traffic stop. However, the suspects chose to ignore the patrol unit’s commands and sped back into Menifee.
“The pursuit eventually culminated in a minor collision with another vehicle at the intersection of McCall Boulevard and Briggs Road,” stated the police spokesperson.
While three individuals in the vehicle struck by the fleeing suspects sustained minor injuries and received on-site treatment, they did not require hospitalization.
Coburn assured that the two suspects, who remain unidentified, were unharmed and were successfully apprehended by the deputies and police officers without any further incidents.
The suspects have been booked into the Riverside Juvenile Hall and are facing charges of armed robbery. Further details about their identities are currently unavailable.
Alongside the Menifee police, investigators from the U.S. Postal Service are actively involved in the ongoing investigation.
