Meghan Markle’s Early Acting Appearance on ‘Married With Children’ Reappears After Nearly Three Decades

Before venturing into the world of show business, Meghan Markle had the chance to mingle with some of Hollywood’s most successful sitcom actors. The Duchess of Sussex, aged 42, had already established herself as an accomplished actress before becoming a member of the royal family. Her journey in front of the camera began at a young age. In fact, her first uncredited acting role was on the popular sitcom “Married… with Children,” which aired from 1988 to 1997. Through her estranged father, Thomas Markle, who worked as a lighting director and director of photography on the show, Meghan had the opportunity to witness the behind-the-scenes workings of a TV set.

Recently, an image resurfaced from one of the episodes featuring the young duchess in the ninth season of the sitcom. In the 1995 episode titled “The Undergraduate,” Meghan portrayed a student and shared a scene with Christina Applegate and David Faustino. In a 2019 interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Ed O’Neill, known for his role as Al Bundy on the show, revealed Meghan’s little-known connection to “Married… with Children.” According to O’Neill, Meghan grew up on the set as her father was a camera operator. He shared, “And she used to come on the set in her little Catholic school uniform. She was, like, 9.”

Despite not being credited as an extra on the show, O’Neill mentioned that Meghan spent a significant amount of time on set due to her father’s job. Meghan herself revealed in 2018 that she visited the set of the sitcom “every day after school” for ten years. Reflecting on her unconventional upbringing, she humorously stated, “Every day after school for 10 years, I was on the set of ‘Married… with Children,’ which is a really funny and perverse place for a little girl in a Catholic school uniform to grow up.”

While she wasn’t allowed to watch the show itself at home, Meghan could catch a glimpse of her father’s name in the end credits, allowing her to give the screen a kiss. She fondly recalled the guest stars she encountered on set, including Tia Carrere, Traci Lords, and Nikki Cox. These women left a lasting impression on the young Meghan, who humorously described herself as a curly-haired girl with a gap in her teeth clad in a school uniform and Keds, awestruck by the presence of these provocative women. It was a stark contrast to her experiences at Immaculate Heart Catholic School.

Meghan went on to accumulate acting credits in various projects before securing her most significant and final role as Rachel Zane on the television series “Suits.” After nearly 30 years, her first uncredited onscreen appearance has resurfaced, showcasing her journey in the entertainment industry.
