Meghan Markle Relinquishes ‘Archetypes’ Trademark Application After Lengthy 17-Month Battle

Meghan Markle has recently withdrawn her trademark application for her podcast “Archetypes,” which was dropped by Spotify. The request to withdraw was made to the US Patent and Trademark Office. This move comes after the cancellation of Markle’s multi-million dollar Spotify deal in June, which prevented the show from airing a second season. Markle’s podcast, which featured notable guests like Mindy Kaling and Serena Williams, ran for one season and received a People’s Choice Award. However, Markle’s trademark application for the podcast’s name was officially abandoned by the US Patent and Trademark Office. This decision follows the fallout from the failed Spotify deal, during which Spotify’s Head of Global Sports Strategy criticized the ex-royals and referred to them as “f–king grifters” and “lazy.” It was also revealed that the couple didn’t produce enough content to fulfill the terms of their $20 million deal. In a joint statement, Spotify and Archewell Audio expressed pride in the series they created together and announced their mutual decision to part ways.
