Meet the Familiar Faces on Bob Melvin’s 2024 Giants Coaching Staff – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

The San Francisco Giants’ new coaching staff, led by manager Bob Melvin, has been officially announced and features several well-known names.

Matt Williams, a former Giants third baseman, is joining the coaching staff as the team’s third base coach. His impressive tenure as a player for San Francisco from 1986-1996, including four All-Star appearances, three Gold Glove Awards, and three Silver Slugger Awards, makes him a significant addition. Williams’ ranking in NL MVP voting in 1990 and 1994 further highlights his impact on the game.

Pat Burrell, a former Giants outfielder and 2010 World Series champion, will take on the role of the team’s hitting coach. Burrell previously worked in various capacities with the organization, including as a special assignment scout and a minor league hitting coach.

Alex Pavlovic reported that Justin Viele and Pedro Guerrero will join Burrell as co-hitting coach and assistant hitting coach, respectively, while Dustin Lind will not be returning.

Ryan Christenson, a former MLB outfielder and San Diego Padres associate manager, will serve as Melvin’s bench coach. The Giants also confirmed the return of several previous regime coaches for the upcoming season.

Mark Hallberg, Alyssa Nakken, J.P. Martinez, and Taira Uematsu are among the returning coaches, with Hallberg transitioning from third base coach to first base coach. The rest of the coaching staff will be announced at a later date.
