Medical Board Bans Plastic Surgeon from Practicing Due to TikTok Usage

In a permanent decision, the Ohio Medical Board has revoked the state medical license of Dr. Katharine Grawe, a plastic surgeon who livestreamed her patients’ surgeries on TikTok. Known as Dr. Roxy to her followers and patients, Grawe is now banned from practicing in the state of Ohio.

The medical board found that Grawe neglected her patients by livestreaming their procedures, interacting with viewers, and answering questions while the surgeries were ongoing. This behavior led to concerns over patient privacy and ethics violations, which were previously addressed by the board as early as 2018 when Grawe received a suspension notice.

The board also revealed that three of Grawe’s patients experienced severe complications as a result of her surgeries, requiring intensive medical care. One patient, whose surgery was partially livestreamed on TikTok, suffered a perforated intestine, leading to bacterial infections and damage to her abdomen. The toxins in her blood even caused a loss of brain function.

Despite attempts to reach Grawe and her lawyers for comment, there has been no response. Additionally, her TikTok account is currently private.
