Matt Fitzpatrick expresses dissatisfaction with the ‘disappointing’ ambiance at the US Open

PGA Tour star Matt Fitzpatrick expressed his disappointment with the lack of enthusiasm and poor atmosphere at the U.S. Open held at Los Angeles Country Club. He criticized the USGA for not delivering a great tournament and attributed the low attendance to members purchasing tickets. Fitzpatrick, who won last year’s U.S. Open, was surprised by the muted reaction to his hole-in-one. Images from the broadcast showed a mostly empty field despite the capacity limit of 23,000 spectators per day. Golf Digest reported that out of the 23,000 fans, 14,000 were in suites and hospitality tents, leaving only 9,000 tickets available for purchase. The report also mentioned that Los Angeles Country Club members tried to buy all the remaining tickets, but an official from the USGA declined to comment on the matter. The combination of limited availability and the Los Angeles lifestyle, which often includes arriving fashionably late to sporting events, contributed to the lackluster turnout. Other players, such as Brooks Koepka, also expressed their dissatisfaction with the tournament, citing challenging course features. Fitzpatrick was trailing the leaders by nine shots, while Koepka was ten shots behind.
