Massive Hillside Fire near Perris Engulfs over 20 Acres: Latest Updates

A brush fire erupted on Tuesday on a hillside in Good Hope, scorching over 20 acres and posing a threat to a few structures. However, thanks to the swift action of Cal Fire aircraft, its advancement was halted, allowing crews to establish tentative containment lines.

This non-injury blaze was reported around 2:10 p.m. near Sharp Road and Highway 74 in the unincorporated community of Good Hope, located just southwest of Perris, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency dispatched multiple engine and hand crews to the location, but the lack of roads or wide trails into the hills made the deployment challenging.

Fortunately, at approximately 2:35 p.m., four Cal Fire air tankers and two water-dropping helicopters intervened, slowing down the fire’s progress.

By just before 4 p.m., the fire’s forward rate of spread had been brought under control. As of 6:52 p.m., the fire department reported that the fire had burned a total of 23 acres and was 40% contained. No further updates were expected on Tuesday.

The hand crews continued to make steady progress in encircling the blaze, which briefly endangered several structures, including at least one residential property. Fortunately, no evacuations were deemed necessary.

“Fire engines will remain on-scene throughout the night and tomorrow working toward full containment,” stated Cal Fire on Tuesday evening.

There is no immediate information on the cause of the fire. A Cal Fire prevention officer has been requested to investigate whether it was intentionally set.
