Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker, has achieved a remarkable milestone by selling 1 million automatic cars. This achievement highlights Maruti’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs and increasing demand for automatic transmission vehicles.

Maruti Suzuki automatic sales reach 1 Million

As the demand for automatic transmission cars continues to grow, it has become essential for car manufacturers to offer automatic variants. In fact, the absence of an automatic gearbox option can negatively impact the sales of an otherwise great product, as has been demonstrated by several vehicles in the market.

Maruti Suzuki, with a portfolio of 17 vehicles, currently offers automatic transmission options in 16 of them. Except for the Eeco, all Maruti Suzuki vehicles have at least one automatic gearbox variant, regardless of the type of automatic gearbox offered.

Maruti Suzuki provides four different types of automatic gearboxes across its 16 vehicles. AGS (Auto Gear Shift) is available in models such as Alto K10, S-Presso, Celerio, WagonR, Ignis, Swift, Dzire, Baleno, and Fronx (NA Petrol). The 4-speed torque converter is sold with Ciaz and Jimny.

In addition, there is a 6-speed torque converter option with paddle shifters available in models like Fronx (Turbo Petrol), Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, and Grand Vitara (Mild Hybrid). Maruti Suzuki also offers an e-CVT with Grand Vitara (Strong Hybrid) and Invicto. However, there is no DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) available from Maruti Suzuki at the moment.

According to Maruti Suzuki, around 65% of their total automatic car sales are equipped with AGS, while torque converters account for 27% and e-CVT holds approximately 8% of total sales. The major regions contributing to Maruti Suzuki’s automatic sales include Delhi NCR, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala.

He stated, “At Maruti Suzuki, we are dedicated to providing our customers with the best driving experience and spreading the ‘Joy of Mobility’ to all. The response we have received from customers is truly humbling. Our automatic car sales have been consistently increasing, and we are close to reaching the milestone of one lakh automatic vehicle sales for the FY23-24. This is a tremendous feat for us.”

Mr. Srivastava also shared insights into customer preferences, stating that NEXA customers tend to opt for high-end automatic variants, while Arena customers prefer mid-variants. Currently, NEXA accounts for approximately 58% of Maruti Suzuki’s automatic car sales, while Arena contributes approximately 42%.
