Amazon has announced that its annual Prime Day mega sale will take place on July 11 and 12. This year, they are introducing invite-only deals for members of their Prime subscription club. These exclusive discounts will be available for items that tend to sell out quickly. Additionally, Amazon’s Buy with Prime program will enable third-party retailers to feature Prime Day deals on their own websites, utilizing Amazon’s payment and fulfillment services.
Prime Day was first launched by Amazon in 2015 as a way to attract new subscribers, promote their products and services, and boost sales during the mid-year period. This event also generates significant revenue for other retailers like Target, Walmart, and Best Buy, who typically offer competing discounts to attract customers. In response, Best Buy has announced a “Black Friday in July” event from July 10 to 12, while Kohl’s will hold a “Summer Cyber Deals” event on July 11 and 12.
Last year, online sales in the U.S. during Prime Day surpassed $11.9 billion, surpassing the overall e-commerce transactions of the event in 2021. Amazon broke with tradition last year by holding a second Prime Day-like sale called the “Prime Early Access Sale” in October, prior to Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Furthermore, Amazon has informed sellers that they are accepting submissions for a “Prime Fall Deal Event” in the fourth quarter, although specific dates have not been announced.
It is important to note that Amazon declined to provide further comment on these developments.
